There once was a flower

That only bloomed when others were around

The flower would dance and ask

I’m pretty, right?

I’m cool, right?

I’m worth something…right?

Pretty soon tumbleweeds tumbled away

Sparrows nibbed at its petals

Until the flower bent from lack of water and overpowering sun

Winter hit

then spring Light

The wilted stem stood back up

“I’ll try again!” Flower said

But this time, I’ll leave room to answer my own questions

And I’ll let my father rain down on my roots

Tumbleweed came and tumbled away

Sparrow nibbled off a petal again

But then a bunny came

It sat by the flower’s shade and said,

“I’m so happy I got to be shaded by you!”

Then a blue bird came and sang flower a song

The flower and blue bird danced together

Flower said, “It was a joy listening to your melody.”

Then a flock of little ducklings came and waited

Flower told them a story about the father

Each duckling plucked off a petal and

Waddled their way back to the light

And the flower rested for winter

This time with a smile

For it now understood the gift

Of giving away its petals and leaves
